The M433 cartridge is a dual purpose impact type round which is designed to penetrate at least two inches of steel armor at 0 angle of obliquity and inflict personnel casualties in the target area. It is fired from the M79 and M203. The cartridge is a fixed round of ammunition consisting of a projectile body containing the explosive shape charge, a cartridge case assembly and a PIBD fuze. The explosive main charge is Composition A-5. The PIBD fuze is assembled with a Composition CH-6 spitback assembly that provides the base detonation when the fuze is impacted at target.
The M583A1 White Star Parachute cartridge is used for illumination and signals and is lighter and more accurate than comparable handheld signal rounds. The parachute attached to the round deploys upon ejection to lower the candle at 7 feet per second (2 mps). The candle burns for about 38 seconds. It is fired from the M79 and M203. A raised “W” on the top of the round denotes the color of the parachute flare.
The M781 practice cartridge replaced the M407 practice cartridge. The M781 is a low-cost, unfuzed fixed-round of practice ammunition ready for use as issued and is fired from the M79 and M203. The cartridge case is made of plastic material and the projectile is also plastic with an aluminum-rotating band. The blue windshield is made of a frangible plastic material and contains a colored dye in granular form, the consistency of talcum powder, which is used to generate a signature. The propulsion system consists of a standard .38 caliber blank. This round is blue zinc or aluminum with white markings. It produces an orange signature on impact.
M992 Infrared Illuminant cartridge satisfy the immediate need for a round which will enhance detection and recognition of targets, as well as, extend maximum range for currently fielded night vision equipment. The M992 IR is fired from the M79 and M203. Minimum visible light output, thus reducing probabilities of location disclosure. A raised “I” on the top of the round denotes the cartridge is Infrared Illuminant cartridge.
